Rustic Al Fuego Mexican Cinnamon Latte

This spicy cinnamon latte was a popular entry in our fall themed Changing Flavors contest! It’s a low tech recipe that’s easy to prepare, even if you don’t have an espresso machine. If you’re looking to turn up the heat, give this spicy cinnamon latte a try!

Rustic Al Fuego Mexican Cinnamon Latte

Ingredients

  • Dark roast coffee, ground espresso fine
  • 1 1/2 cinnamon sticks
  • 1/4 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon azucar morena (brown sugar)
  • 1 tablespoon Mexican hot cocoa (brick and grater)
  • 1/4 teaspoon chili powder
  • 2 cups whole milk

Rustic Al Fuego Mexican Cinnamon Latte

Directions

Step 1

Place ½ cinnamon stick (whole) inside the espresso funnel or filter. Add coffee grounds, vanilla and azúcar morena. Add water and brew the coffee according to espresso stovetop maker directions.

Step 2

Place milk into a glass jar with a lid. Shake jar for 30-60 seconds until foam begins to form. Remove the lid and heat the milk in the microwave for 30-45 seconds. (Foam will separate and milk will be hot).

Step 3

Divide the brewed coffee between two cups.

Step 4

Pour milk and milk foam evenly between the two cups, starting from the center of the cup.

Step 5

Using a grater, sprinkle Mexican hot cocoa on the foam. Add chili powder and serve with a cinnamon stick as a garnish.
