I recently took my dream vacation and traveled to Italy. After the long flight I could not wait to have a traditional Italian espresso. Unexpectedly, the first espresso of my trip was actually at a gas station where, to my surprise, there was a packed bar inside lined with people sipping on coffee beverages.  My next coffee stop was Bar Panarello in Milan and this is where I experienced a heavenly drink known as the Marocchino.

There are many variations of this drink but they all consist of espresso, chocolate and foamed milk. I decided to make a version that included Nutella as an ingredient because I’m addicted to the stuff. This drink is typically served in a small glass so I used a 3.5oz glass.

Ingredients:

  • 2 tsp Chocolate Sauce
  • 1 Shot of espresso
  • Milk foam
  • Cacao powder
  • Nutella (optional)

Line the glass with Nutella or add the chocolate sauce to the bottom of the glass (or go wild and add both!). Then add your espresso, foamed milk, and top with cacao powder.

Fun Fact: The name of the drink actually comes from its color which resembles Moroccan leather that used to be widely used in Italian hat making.
