Safety Warnings & Notices
- Electrical safety: Disconnect the machine from power before accessing the switch and wiring. Do not work on the machine while it is plugged in.
- Prevent damage: When prying connectors off, use gentle pressure so you do not bend terminals or pull on wires. Pry at the connector, not the wire.
- Wire placement matters: Keep the two blue wires on one side of the switch (one side of the center post), and the brown and black wires on the other. Mixing sides can cause improper operation.
- Small parts: Do not drop the retaining nut. It can be difficult to retrieve and reinstall.
- Stability: If you tip the machine on its side for access, support it securely to prevent it from tipping or falling.
Step-by-Step Instructions
Access The Switch
- Remove the machine housing (the video begins with the housing already removed).
- Tip the machine on its side to get easier access to the power switch area.
- Locate the power switch and identify the four wires connected to it.
Remove The Wires
- Note the wire positions before removal: the two blue wires must stay on one side of the switch, and the brown and black wires stay on the other side (separated by the center post).
- Use a flathead screwdriver to gently pry each spade connector off the switch terminal.
- Set the wires aside so you can reinstall them in the same positions.
Remove The Switch
- Locate the retaining nut on the switch and remove it.
- Use the screwdriver to give a light tap to help loosen the switch assembly as needed.
- Once loose, push/pull the switch out through the front of the machine. Keep track of the retaining nut so it is not dropped.
Install New Switch
- Identify the two flat spots on the new switch body.
- Align those flat spots with the matching flat spots in the front panel switch opening.
- Push the new switch into place from the front. The switch face orientation can be either way, as long as the flats are aligned.
Secure The Nut
- Thread the retaining nut on by hand until it is snug.
- Use the flathead screwdriver to gently tap the nut tighter until it feels secure.
Reconnect The Wires
- Using needle nose pliers as needed, reconnect the two blue wires to the same side of the switch they were originally on.
- Reconnect the black wire to its original terminal (shown in the video at the bottom position).
- Reconnect the brown wire to its original terminal (shown in the video at the top position).
- Double-check that the two blues are on one side of the center post and the brown and black are on the other.
