Changing out the Control Panel on the Bezzera Magica PID
This video walks you through replacing the control board on a Bezzera Magica PID. You will remove the drip tray and water reservoir, carefully lean the machine back to access the control box screws, remove the old control board, label and photograph the wire positions, transfer the wiring to the new board, and then reinstall the control box while making sure the wires are routed neatly and nothing is forced during reassembly.
Tools Needed
- 2.5 mm Allen wrench
- Phillips head screwdriver
- Felt tip marker (for labeling wires)
- Rag (to place behind the machine when leaning it back)

Step-by-Step Instructions
Prepare The Machine
- Unplug the machine and make sure it is cold before you begin.
- Remove the drip tray.
- Remove the reservoir cover.
- Remove the water reservoir, and make sure there is no water in it.
Access The Control Box
- Carefully lean the machine onto its back.
- Place a rag behind the machine to protect it while it is leaned back.
- Using a 2.5 mm Allen wrench, remove the two screws that secure the control box area so you can access the control board.
- If the assembly does not slide out easily, gently wiggle it and push on the wire bundle a bit while working it out slowly until you can access it.
Remove The Control Board
- Remove the Phillips head screw holding the control board in place.
- Pull the control board out so you can clearly see the wiring connections.
Label And Photograph Wires
- Use a felt tip marker to number the wires (for example: 1, 2, 3, and so on) so each connector can be returned to the correct location.
- Take a clear photo of the control board and numbered wires before disconnecting anything.
Disconnect The Wires
- Carefully remove the connectors from the control board, working them off one at a time.
- If connectors are tight, gently pry up from underneath rather than pulling hard on the wire.
- If you notice the connector housing starting to separate, hold it together as you remove the connectors so the internal pieces do not slide out.
Install The New Board
- Place the new control board in position.
- Reconnect each wire to the matching terminal using your numbering and reference photo to confirm correct placement.
- Double-check your work by comparing to your photo. If needed, review the photo again before moving on.
Reassemble The Control Box
- Route the wires neatly back into the control box area, paying attention to how they sit so nothing gets pinched.
- Align the control box so the screw hole lines up correctly (the hole sits higher than it may appear at first).
- Use a finger to push the control box in the needed direction so the screw holes align, then reinstall the screw.
- Tighten screws snugly, but do not over-tighten.
- Reinstall the two Allen screws removed earlier.
- Tip the machine back upright.
- Reinstall the reservoir, reservoir cover, and drip tray.
